Maine’s rural community population is projected to continue its merciless decline. By 2034 nearly 21,000 fewer people will live in Northern, Eastern, and Western Maine's rural towns. “It’s akin to losing more than everyone in Piscataquis County or the entire town of Brunswick,” according to the Bangor Daily News.
Dramatic action needs to be taken to provide economic stimulus and support infrastructure investment to slow this shocking trend.
